Another Briton deceived by a scammer

Volzhsk, Russia, 2012. Despite the fact that the media have drawn attention to Russian bride scams on more than one occasion there are still naive foreign men who believe in fairy tales. One of them, Edward James Dunn (73) from London, was spotted with handbags in the early April morning at a post-office in Volzhsk.

An interpreter was called and the British told amazed bystanders that he had arrived in Volzhsk to meet his online female acquaintance. He got to know her in January on the Internet. They became virtual friends at first and then the British fell in love. As it turned out soon, so did she. Mr. Dunn invited her to visit him in London but she refused alleging financial problems. Then he offered his help ($400) and decided to go to Volzhsk. The woman took money and gave him her address.

When Mr. Dunn arrived in Volzhsk, he waited for the woman to come to the railway station to meet him for an hour. In vain. Then he took a taxi and got to the indicated address where instead of an apartment building he saw the post-office with surprised employees.

The British told that he had previously heard about online dating scams and even had had experience in dealing with suspicious women. But in this case it was his own decision to help out: "It is my first time in Russia. Against all the odds, I stay positive. I consider this experience an adventure. I don`t want to take revenge - so, I decided not to go to the police." Mr. Dunn spent a week in Volzhsk walking around and visiting local landmarks. He didn`t want to talk about women again. vpgazeta.ru.
