Chile, 2015. At least 15 complaints have been filed by Chilean nationals at the Russian consulate in this South American country. It's the same old story: local men contacted over the Internet supposedly Russian women interested in foreign husbands. Then those women tricked the victims into long-distance romantic relationship and under various excuses started swindling "machos" out of money.
In the face of this situation Russian consul in Chile Ilya Vanifantev had to clarify that mostly foreign men deal with scammers who pretend to be Russian women and people shouldn`t send money in such cases. Eduardo Picand, a Chilean prosecutor, noticed that the victims often prefer not to file complaints. But also he encouraged them to come forward.
