Three young women have been arrested on suspicion of fraud

Saint Petersburg, Russia, 2010. Three young women (aged between 20 and 22) have been arrested by the police on suspicion of fraud. The foreigners interested in Russian women had been contacting the suspects over Internet. The women used fake profiles and maintained affectionate conversations with victims who quickly fell in love with them.

Then the detained scam artists offered the victims a meeting and asked for some considerable sum of money under a pretext (for example, for buying flight tickets). One of the victims, a Czech citizen, handed 62 000 crowns (2 800 USD) to the suspects. After getting money the suspects stopped communicating with victims. An inquest was initiated and the women were conditionally released. Fontanka.ru
