Briton deceived by a scammer gets compensation

Cheboksary, Russia, 2014. A British national Jim Peterson (65) became the victim of fraud. He had got to know a Russian woman "Marina" from Cheboksary on the Internet in April of 2013. They engaged in communicating and then the man fell in love with "Marina". He invited her to visit him in the U.K. but the woman complained about the lack of money to buy flight tickets. Jim transferred money to her account to cover her travel expenses. Then she asked him to send her money again because she had been "robbed". Then she had been "fined" etc. Mr. Peterson sent up to 360 000 rubles to her. Finally she didn`t come. The man understood that he had been deceived and filed a complaint.

The police swiftly found that woman but she denied any connection with this case. As it turned out later in October of 2014, a 32-year-old man from Yoshkar-Ola used Marina`s personal data to con Jim Peterson out of money. He was arrested. In order to mitigate his possible sentence the conman agreed to compensate mr. Peterson for his spending. Happy and satisfied, mr. Peterson sent a letter of appreciation later to thank the police for their work on the case. Source 1. Source 2.
